County honour for jump star Roxanne

AHEAD of competing at a prestigious national festival, a Humberston showjumper has been given a timely boost.

Roxanne Hennebery has been selected to ride for Lincolnshire in the Midlands team at another top national event.

As reported, the 23-year-old from Humberston has qualified for Scope – the annual British Showjumping Festival which has over 70 classes.

Now she will compete for Lincolnshire against other counties at Weston Lawns on Sunday.
It is quite the honour for Hennebery, considering she has only performed in the discipline for four months with her horse Brighton Boy.

She wants to use the event as practice for the tough competition she will face at Scope later this month.
She said: "I'm over the moon that I got asked to ride for our area.

"Brighton Boy is on top form at the minute and it gives us an opportunity to ride at a big event with lots of people and a bit of pressure.
"It means when we do go to Scope it won't be as daunting."
Weston Lawns, in Warwickshire, is held in high regard and has first class facilities.
Hennebery will jump in class two in the Midlands Team Showjumping event.
She explained: "There are four people in a team.

"I will have to jump around twice, followed by the other three members in my team.
"We are competing against other counties across the country."
Area representative Joanne Burns asked Hennebery to ride, and the showjumper has been busy practising.

She said: "Brighton Boy is really enjoying the jumping. We did a nice 1m30 track recently and it went well.

"It will be good practice for us ahead of Scope."
As reported, Hennebery, who spent five years at Grimsby's Weelsby Riding School, previously performed only dressage with Brighton Boy in their year together.

She had been warned against him as he was deemed "unrideable" by more experienced riders but the two have grown over the last few months and now face two major competitions in a matter of weeks.
